Check a barcode PDF at its intended print size

Use the PDF you're sending to print, at its intended size. A screenshot or a decoded number alone doesn't establish the barcode's physical dimensions.

Start with the final artwork

Export the label or packaging layout as PDF after setting its final dimensions. Barcode Medic uses the PDF geometry for physical measurements. A bare image doesn't provide the physical scale needed for an X-dimension in millimetres.

Check which page contains the barcode before opening a multipage document. The free check reads the first page of the first file, so a result there doesn't describe the rest of the PDF.

Read the measurement result

  1. Open the PDF and confirm that the detected barcode and decoded content correspond to the artwork you intended to check.
  2. Review the available size and quiet-zone findings. Read the individual warnings rather than relying only on the overall badge.
  3. If the result identifies a raster barcode, keep the pixel-limited measurement warning with the result.
  4. Make any artwork changes in the original design tool, export a new PDF and check that file again. Barcode Medic doesn't edit or repair the PDF.

Check the printed result separately

A later scaling change changes the dimensions you checked. Tell the printer the intended output size and rerun the PDF check if the layout is resized.

This is a geometry and quiet-zone preflight. It doesn't certify ISO/IEC 15416 or 15415 print quality, measure a calibrated print grade, or guarantee acceptance by a retailer. If your print specification calls for verification of the printed symbol, arrange that separately.
