Convert DWG to DXF and check the cutting geometry

Convert a copy of the DWG in a program that supports DWG. Renaming the file extension does not change its format, and DXF Medic does not read DWG directly.

Choose the export target deliberately

ODA File Converter provides input and output folders, a target version and an optional audit operation. ODA states that this option audits and repairs loaded files. Choose a DXF version supported by the receiving program rather than automatically selecting the oldest available format. Keep the source DWG unchanged so you can revisit entities that convert poorly.

Inspect what the conversion produced

Open the resulting DXF in CAD and use a fit-to-drawing view. Check a known dimension and the intended model-space geometry. Look for missing text, external references, splines and blocks that did not become usable cutting contours. A successful format conversion or audit is not proof that every boundary is closed or that the drawing is ready for manufacturing.

Prepare the contours for the next tool

Keep the outer profiles and holes required by the job; remove annotations from the cutting copy. Inspect the DXF in DXF Medic for supported diagnostics and available repairs, then compare the result with the original geometry. If a feature is missing, repair or re-export it in the source CAD application. Finish by checking scale, contours and toolpaths in the actual receiving CAM software.

Diagnostics are free without a part limit. Download repaired files free for up to 5 resulting parts. Supports DXF and SVG, not DWG.
