Export a Fusion sketch DXF for a cutting workflow

Start with a planar sketch that represents the part at its intended size. A drawing sheet, projected view and manufacturing outline can contain different geometry.

Select only the contours you need

Check the outer boundary and holes in the sketch. Remove unwanted construction or reference geometry from the export copy and inspect any projected edges. Keep a known dimension for the round-trip check. If the part is not planar, first decide what flat geometry the manufacturing process actually requires rather than exporting an arbitrary view.

Use the supported sketch export route

Autodesk’s file-format documentation distinguishes sketch export to DXF from File > Export and describes licence differences. Follow the route available in your installed version and licence. Do not assume that every DXF export command has identical availability or produces the same selection of geometry.

Reopen the result before handing it off

Measure the reference feature, count the outer profiles and holes, and inspect where curves meet straight segments. DXF Medic can diagnose supported DXF/SVG geometry and apply supported repairs; read the reported changes rather than assuming export success means the file is closed and ready to cut. Reopen the final file in the actual CAM or laser application and verify its scale and operations. Preserve the Fusion source so any substantial geometry correction can be made there.

Diagnostics are free without a part limit. Download repaired files free for up to 5 resulting parts. Supports DXF and SVG, not DWG.
