Blank DXF import: check the view, layers and entities
A blank viewport does not prove that a DXF is empty. Separate a display problem from missing or unsupported geometry before exporting the file again.
Find the drawing in a CAD viewer
Open a copy in a CAD program such as LibreCAD. Fit the view to the drawing and inspect layer visibility. Look for geometry far from the origin or a tiny part alongside a distant stray entity. Check that you are examining the intended model-space geometry. If the file is also blank there, ask the sender to reopen the exported file rather than only showing the original drawing.
Check what the importer supports
A DXF can contain text, blocks, splines and other entities that a particular cutting importer does not use as contours. A raster image or annotation visible in CAD is not necessarily a cutting path. Compare entity types with the destination program’s documentation. Ask for a planar export containing the outer boundaries and holes you need, with a known reference dimension.
Use diagnostics without assuming complete recovery
DXF Medic reports supported import and geometry problems, including skipped unsupported entities in cases it can process. Some invalid files stop earlier, so it cannot promise a complete list of every defect in every file. If no usable part remains, return to the source application. Reopen the corrected export in both CAD and the destination program, then check scale and part count.
Diagnostics are free without a part limit. Download repaired files free for up to 5 resulting parts. Supports DXF and SVG, not DWG.
