Self-intersecting contours: resolve the crossing in the drawing

A contour that crosses itself can represent a valid visual SVG shape while remaining unsuitable for a particular cutting operation. Identify the intended boundary before repairing it.

Distinguish display rules from cutting contours

SVG defines nonzero and evenodd fill rules for determining which regions are filled, including paths with crossings. That does not tell a manufacturing importer which simple boundary or separate parts the designer intended. A filled browser preview therefore does not establish that the same path is suitable for nesting or a chosen CAM operation.

Inspect the crossing and intended regions

Zoom into the crossing in the source editor and compare it with the design. Remove an accidental loop, trim and reconnect the intended boundary, or split the drawing into separate closed contours where appropriate. Keep required holes. Boolean operations may help in an editor, but the correct operation depends on whether you intend a union, subtraction or separate parts.

Check the corrected export

DXF Medic deliberately does not automatically repair self-intersections by guessing the intended shape. Use its report to investigate the affected part, correct the drawing in CAD or a vector editor, then import it again. Compare dimensions and enclosed regions with the original design and inspect the final cutting preview. Do not assume that removing a warning alone preserves the design.
